Eugene Bergen Henegouwen
Eugene Bergen Henegouwen joined Equinix in 2013 as Senior Vice President of Sales for Europe, Middle East and Africa and in 2019 became President of the region. In this role he oversees the management, strategy, and growth for Equinix in EMEA.
In his previous role as SVP of Sales for EMEA Mr. Bergen tripled revenues in five years. To drive this growth, he regionalized network sales, developed a regional corporate sales team and developed a channel organization all while ensuring his team could speak the language of the customer and understand their business needs. He has a passion for developing talent and mentoring career paths. During his tenure as a sales leader he brought in a substantial number of high performers to key sales leadership positions who have been key drivers of Equinix’s success in EMEA.
Prior to joining Equinix, Mr. Bergen was Executive Vice President and Managing Director of EMEA for the leading global mobile technology firm Syniverse Inc. He held top-level positions in high technology companies in the U.S. and the Netherlands, including serving as CEO for IMC in Boston and as CEO for AVIO Digital Inc. based in Redwood City. He had also held senior-level management positions with Philips Business Electronics and Philips Telecommunications and Data Systems.
Mr. Bergen holds both Master's and Bachelor's Degrees in Electrical Engineering from Delft University of Technology in the Netherlands. Since 2017 he is a board member of the leading 3D desktop printing company Ultimaker.
Senior Vice President of Sales, EMEA
Johan Arts joined Equinix as Senior Vice President of Sales, EMEA in 2019. In this role, he is responsible for leading sales strategy and growth for Equinix across Europe, the Middle East and Africa.
Prior to joining Equinix, Johan spent 12 years at IBM where he was Worldwide Vice President of Sales for the cybersecurity division, focused on transforming the go-to-market and channel strategies. He previously was responsible for the security team’s worldwide channel business and the European software business. Johan has a deep history selling enterprise technology across Europe, Asia-Pacific and North America for companies including MRO Software and QAD.
Johan has a business degree from Nyenrode Business University in the Netherlands.
Managing Director, France
Régis joined Equinix in 2014 as Managing Director for France. Régis has been instrumental in building the France business, and as part of the TelecityGroup acquisition, integrated both the French and Italian Telecity businesses into Equinix.
Prior to joining Equinix, Régis held regional leadership roles in various Network Service Provider (NSP) businesses including Interoute, Colt and BT, working in both Network and Managed Services businesses. Earlier in his career Régis worked in Sales Management for Financial Services Providers, like Radianz, Sunguard Financial Services and Standard & Poor’s, always with a pan-European remit.
Régis holds a Master’s from INSEEC Bordeaux and graduated in Communications Studies at UCLA.
Managing Director, The Netherlands
Michiel Eielts joined Equinix in 2009 and is Managing Director of the Benelux Business which includes data centers in Amsterdam, Enschede and Zwolle as well as the Dutch Managed Services Business. He has more than 20 years’ experience in the Dutch IT and telecom industry.
Before joining Equinix, Michiel worked at Nedstat, a European web performance and monitoring organization, where he was Vice President of Business Development. He was also responsible for the development and management of business alliances across Europe.
Earlier in his career, Michiel held various commercial and managerial roles at KPN, after which he moved on to Telfort to take a seat on the Board of Directors. He also worked as Managing Director at BSC (a subsidiary of Essent).
Michiel studied Artificial Intelligence at Utrecht University and did an MBA at Erasmus University Rotterdam.
Managing Director, Germany
Jens-Peter (JP) Feidner is Managing Director of the Equinix business in Germany. JP joined Equinix in 2014 as Finance Director for the German market. In 2017, he took the role of Senior Director, Corporate Development EMEA, and took the lead in the long-term planning and expansion of our EMEA metros, before becoming Managing Director in 2019. JP joined Equinix from Bosch Automotive Service Solutions as their Finance Lead for EMEA, and prior to this role worked at SPX Flow where he held management positions in Finance in Europe over the span of eight years. JP’s career began at Ernst & Young in Frankfurt, Germany where he spent nearly five years as a Senior Auditor in the Audit division.
JP studied Finance and Taxation at the University of Applied Sciences in Edenkoben, Germany.
Managing Director, UK
Russell Poole joined Equinix as Managing Director for the UK in 2007 through the acquisition of IXeurope where he ran the UK business since April 2000. Russell has extensive experience in the UK telecommunications and internet industries and worked with global financial institutions to enable their electronic trading infrastructure in London and to/from other key markets. Since joining Equinix he has overseen the growth of the UK company.
From 1998 to 2000, Russell was a director of MessageNet Ltd, an internet security and messaging security provider. Responsible for sales and operations, he also led the development of eScan, Europe’s first e-mail virus and content control service. In October 1999, MessageNet was acquired by Articon-Integralis AG. Between 1993 and 1998, Russell was the National Sales Manager for General Telecom, the business telecom division of General Cable PLC.
Russell attended Nottingham University, where he studied Production Engineering and commenced his managerial career at Coca-Cola and Schweppes, where he enjoyed a successful career as a National Account Manager.
Vice President, Growth and Emerging Markets
Judith Gardiner joined Equinix in 2013 as Director of Sales Strategy and Operations for EMEA. Prior to this role, she served as Chief of Staff for EMEA leading multiple high impact projects in the region including acquisitions and integration programs before becoming Vice President of EMEA’s Growth and Emerging Markets in 2019.
Judith joined Equinix from Polycom where she held management positions in Finance and Sales Operations in Europe over the span of 10 years. Prior to this role, Judith worked at Peoplesoft (now Oracle) in the Netherlands. Judith’s career began at Deloitte in Ireland where she spent five years in the Audit division.
Judith qualified as a Chartered Accountant with the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Ireland.
Managing Director, Bulgaria
Zdravko Nikolov Joined Equinix in January 2016 as Managing Director for Bulgaria. He had previously held the role as Managing Director for TelecityGroup in Bulgaria.
Zdravko has over 15 years’ Senior Management experience in Sales, Business Development and Engineering. Earlier in his career, Zdravko was CEO of 3DC, which was acquired by TelecityGroup in 2013, and he spent eight years at Cisco in both engineering and business development roles.
Zdravko holds a Master’s Degree in Software Development from Sofia Technical University.
Managing Director, Finland
Sami Holopainen is Managing Director of Equinix Finland. He was appointed as General Manager of TelecityGroup Finland in early 2015, which was acquired by Equinix in January of 2016. Prior to this, Sami was the founding partner and CEO of Tenue Oy for six years, from 2006 through to its acquisition by TelecityGroup in 2012.
Sami has over 20 years’ experience in ISP and data center businesses. He is known as an industry leader in the market, having been instrumental in a firm that was one of the first movers in managed data center services in Finland. Since 2012 Sami has been successfully growing Equinix’s presence in Finland, connecting Western European markets to Russia, the Baltic region and Asia.
Sami holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Information Systems from the Satakunta University of Applied Sciences, Finland.
Managing Director Ireland
Maurice Mortell is Managing Director of the Equinix business in Ireland and the emerging markets of Turkey, Poland and Bulgaria following the acquisition of TelecityGroup by Equinix in 2016. Prior to this, Maurice held the role of Vice President of Emerging Markets for TelecityGroup from 2014, which followed on from his role as Ireland Country Manager which he held from 2011.
Earlier in his career Maurice was the CEO of Irish data center operator, Data Electronics for over 10 years. As CEO, Maurice set the vision and strategy for the company, driving consistent business growth during his leadership tenure. With over 20 years’ experience in the data center sector, Maurice has been a key figure in the rise of the data-centre industry in Ireland and is highly regarded as a thought leader on Ireland’s potential to be a global digital hub.
Maurice is a graduate of Business Studies from the College of Commerce, is a former board member of the Irish Internet Association and a former chairman of the Outsourced Services Group within IBEC. He holds the 2012 ICT Excellence ‘Person of the Year’ award for his invaluable contribution to the ICT sector in Ireland.
Managing Director, Italy
Emmanuel Becker joined Equinix in August 2017 as Managing Director for Italy. Prior to joining Equinix he held the role of Managing Director for Italy at eServGlobal, Vocalcom, Easynet Group (now Interoute) and at DATA4 Group.
Outside of Italy, Emmanuel developed and supported businesses – including his own consulting company, BDM International – in Germany, Spain, France, Belgium and Argentina.
Emmanuel brings a wealth of expertise to Equinix having worked in various market verticals, particularly in ICT and telecoms. He has a rich network of professional relationships, is a member of key industry associations and is an Ambassador for French Tech Milan.
Emmanuel holds a Bachelor Degree in Computer Science from Itin-Escia Paris.
Managing Director, Middle East & North Africa
Jeroen Schlosser joined Equinix in December 2012 during the successful acquisition of the first Equinix IBX in the Middle East North Africa region. As an ICT leader in the emerging markets, he has since developed the Dubai data center to be a hub for the MENA region, providing operational excellence, a diverse Network Ecosystem and Cloud density to our growing customer base of Enterprise and Financial Services firms, including global, regional and local brands.
Jeroen started his career in the payments industry where he was responsible for the roll-out of the chip card for the leading payments provider in the Netherlands. In 1999 he joined TelecityGroup, responsible for setting up the organization in the Netherlands, and stayed on to lead the Operations function. Prior to joining Equinix, Jeroen worked for the data center firm Compertius where he consulted on Management, Data Center Strategy and Operations for leading Financial Services and System Integration companies in the Dutch market.
Jeroen holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Economics from HAN University of Applied Sciences. He currently resides in Dubai with his family, having moved to United Arab Emirates in 2012.
Managing Director, Poland
Robert Busz joined Equinix in 2017 as Managing Director for Poland and oversees Equinix business operations including introducing global Equinix standards to the market. He is responsible for development of a local strategy aligned with Equinix global business objectives including business continuity and expansion opportunities.
Prior to joining Equinix, Robert was Sales Director for CEE, Russia and CIS markets at Level 3 Communications (now Century Link), an American telecommunications and internet service provider. Earlier in his career, Robert was Sales Director and Sales Development Director for CEE at a Swedish telecoms multinational, TeliaSonera International (now Telia Company).
Robert has 20 years’ of experience in management and business development within telecommunications and data management organizations, and since 1999 has played an integral role in Poland’s telecommunications and network operations industries.
Robert holds a post graduate Degree of Real Estate evaluation from Warsaw University of Technology and graduated from Akademia Leona Koźmińskiego in Business Management and Marketing.
Managing Director, Portugal
Carlos Paulino is Managing Director for Portugal and joined Equinix in 2017 following the acquisition of the Itconic data center business. Carlos joined Itconic in 2000 during which time he was heavily involved in the firm’s business development, led several functions, and became a member of the board in 2010. Through his stewardship the Portugal facility is one of the best interconnected data centers on the West Coast of Europe.
Carlos has over 25 years’ experience in the telecoms and technology sector. He held leadership roles in the telecoms firm Maxitel in both Product Development, where he introduced cutting edge products to the market, and in Customer Services, where led the Customer Support Center to achieving top scores and industry recognition. Earlier in his career Carlos was CTO of Madem, a Telecoms startup which delivered voice and data services to Madeira.
Carlos holds a M.B.A from IESE/AESE Business School, a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from the Lisbon Institute of engineering, a B.S. in Information management and a PHD in IT management from Nova.. Lisbon University.
Managing Director, Spain
Ignacio Velilla is Managing Director for Spain and joined Equinix in 2017 following the acquisition of the Itconic data center and cloud infrastructure solutions business. In 2001 Ignacio joined Itconic where he held various leadership roles in the Delivery, Sales and Operations divisions. From 2016 to 2018, he held the role of CTO of Itconic and Director of Cloudmas, the Professional Services arm of Itconic.
Ignacio spent his entire professional career in the IT sector, participating in largescale projects related to digital transformation for leading national and international companies across Europe, North America, Asia-Pacific and the Middle East, and working with clients including Microsoft, Etisalat, FedEx and Abengoa.
A telecommunications engineer from the University of Alcalá, Ignacio holds an MBA from the Instituto de Empresa (IE) Business School and a PMP certification from ESI International. His area of industry expertise is data center and cloud computing services, as well as the development and management of Outsourcing and Managed Services projects.
Managing Director, Sweden
Maria Sundvall joined Equinix in 2017 as the Managing Director of Equinix Sweden, overseeing the management, strategy and growth of the company’s Swedish operation.
Maria has more than 20 years’ of country management and sales leadership experience within leading high-tech organisations. She joined Equinix from MobileIron where she headed the Swedish organisation, leading their sales efforts in the Nordic market. Maria also held various sales leadership positions at Infinera, WindRiver (an Intel Company), and Dimension Data.
Maria holds a MSc. in Engineering from KTH Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm.
Managing Director, Switzerland
Roger Semprini joined Equinix in 2016 as Managing Director for Switzerland. Roger came to Equinix from Swisscom where he was Senior Vice President for Strategic Accounts, Senior Vice President for Sales & Marketing and a member of the Executive Board of Swisscom IT Services AG.
Prior to joining Swisscom he worked for Fujitsu as Senior Vice President and senior member of the management board, leading the Alps (Austria/Switzerland) and the Eastern European region, heading 17 national subsidiaries and leading more than 1,400 employees. In parallel he was president of the Supervisory Board of Fujitsu Technology Solutions AG in Switzerland, which he set up and headed as CEO/Managing Director from 1999 to 2008.
Roger has more than 20 years’ experience in development and management within local and international ICT organizations, including IT & Business Process Outsourcing (ITO & BPO), and played an integral role in Switzerland’s ICT industry.
Roger graduated from Zurich Business School in 1984, and has an M-MBA from MIT Sloan in Boston.
Managing Director, Turkey
Aslihan Güreşcier joined Equinix in 2019 as Managing Director for Turkey. Aslihan has more than 20 years’ experience in the Data Center industry including three years at Zenium Data Centers where she was the Country Manager for Turkey.
Most recently, Aslihan worked as a freelance cloud and data center consultant for various firms including Tradefive, the exclusive partner of Alibaba Cloud in Turkey, to establish a local cloud presence.
Prior to Zenium, Aslihan was with the Systems Integration, data center and technology solutions firm, KoçSistem, where she progressed to Sales Group Manager during more than 20 years with the company.
Aslihan graduated from Bosphorus University with a BA in Foreign Languages in 1995 and an MA in Business Administration from Marmara University in 1999.
Vice President Business Development – EMEA, Managing Director Equinix Services
Michael Winterson joined Equinix in September 2007 through the acquisition of IXEurope. During his time at Equinix, Michael held the positions of both Vice President of Marketing and Vice President of Sales, before moving into his current role as Managing Director Equinix (Services), where he created the EMEA Business Development team that is now aligned with Equinix’s Strategy, Services and Innovation division.
Prior to working in Equinix, Michael was part of the start-up management team of IXEurope, which began in 2000. He brings over nearly two decades of data center services experience and held various senior positions in country management, sales and marketing.
Before IXEurope, Michael was involved in two other technology start-ups in Europe that were eventually sold to US and Japanese companies.
He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Economics and French from Northwestern University and a Master’s Degree in International Economics from the Graduate Institute – Geneva.
Michael is a board member of the European Datacentre Association and Director of their Policy Committee. He also is a board member of charity group New Life Nyambene.
